Please find below information on procedures on notification of change of name for Norwegians registered as living abroad in the National Registry and for Norwegians not registered as living abroad respectively.
Norwegians registered as living abroad
For notification of change of name, Norwegians registered as living abroad must complete the form “Melding om endring av navn” (available at the Embassy or by clicking on the link) and write a letter stating the following:
- former name in full
- current name in full (surname underlined)
- current address
- date of birth
- personal ID-number
True certified copies of documents providing evidence of change of name must be enclosed.

Norwegians NOT registered as living abroad
Norwegians not registered as living abroad must complete the form “Melding om endring av navn”, and return it to their local Tax Assessment Office (likningskontor).
