Norwegian radio - in English!

Music Information Centre Norway (MIC) has launched a new webcast series in English packed with great Norwegian music of all genres.

The programmes consist of 99 minutes of cutting-edge Norwegian electronica, pop, and rock, but also traditional acoustic folk music, jazz and indie. Every two weeks it is presented by DJ 99, aka Guttorm Andreasen, who has worked as a presenter, DJ, reporter and producer at the national Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation for 16 years. From 2003 to 2006 he produced 702 editions of the multi-rhythmic daily programme Wasabi on the NRK P2 channel. Up to 200,000 people would tune in daily on the complete genre-free blend of world music.

’99 Minutes’ exclusively presents tracks from Norwegian musicians, but DJ 99 will also include English speaking interviews in every webcast. The first programme included a carefully selected playlist offering some of the Norway’s finest music, such as Datarock, Fjorden Baby!, Serena Maneesh, Årabrot, Elephant9, Jaga Jazzist, and Diskjokke, as well as an interview with Jaga Jazzist’s Martin Horntvedt.

The second programme in this series continued with a varied and eclectic playlist that included tracks from Casiokids, Bushman's Revenge, Biosphere, and Topper & Cadbury, amongst others.

The radio programme is a new initiative from MIC, the Norwegian section of the International Association of Music Information Centres, IAMIC, which organises 39 similar centres in 37 countries. MIC’s goal is to work for increased use of Norwegian music domestically and internationally.
