The Hungry Hearts Pin-Up Performance Band was established in Oslo in 2006. It consists of six female members. Visual and performance artist Tonje Gjevjon is the leader of the band. The Hungry Hearts develops and produces performance concerts, music, short movies, texts, installations and photos. Their work is inspired by the paintings of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, the books of the Japanese author Haruki Murukami and movies by American director David Lynch, Spanish director and screenwriter Pedro Almodovar, and Swedish director Roy Anderson. The Hungry Hearts is well known internationally for their ‘lesbian anthem’ ‘In Your Face’.
On 13 June, at 20:00, the band will perform at TLV Fest, Tel Aviv’s international LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual) film festival. The band will meet with the audience in an intimate setting and present some of their short films, perform old and new songs, create live art and talk about everything from art to politics. The host of the event, TLV Fest, was established in 2006 and takes place each June at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque and the Tel Aviv LGBT Community Center. It arranges public screenings of films, meetings with local and foreign filmmakers, panel discussions and special events. This year the festival is held from 11 to 18 June. The entire program of the festival can be viewed here.
The Hungry Hearts has created numerous short films and songs. Their short films have been screened in over 40 international film festivals, such as Paris International Lesbian & Feminist Film Festival (Cineffable), France, and Kansai Queer Film festival in Osaka, Japan. In 2010 The Hungry Hearts won the ‘One Minutes Award’ for the European category for their short film ‘Last Kiss Goodbye’. The same year The Hungry Hearts was nominated to the ‘Entertainer of the year’ prize at Bergen Gay Galla, Norway. In April 2011 the band performed at L-Beach Festival in Germany, Europe’s biggest festival for women. Their short films will also be screened in festivals in Italy, the Netherlands and Australia in 2011.
