Bilateral cultural exchange

12/12/2007 // The bilateral relationship between Israel and Norway is strong, as evidenced by the many political and cultural visits taking place every year. Highlights of Norwegian culture in Israel include:

 * The 2007 publication in Hebrew of acclaimed novelist Per Petterson’s award-winning novel “Out Stealing Horses” by Keter Publishing House, and the subsequent appearance by Mr. Petterson at the 23rd Jerusalem International Book Fair (JIBF) in February this year.

 * Scheduled publications in Hebrew of “Kristin Lavransdatter” by Nobel Price laureate Sigrid Undset, and “The Half Brother” by winner of the Nordic Council’s literary Award 2002, Lars Saabye Christensen.

 * The artistic, academic and political seminar on gender equality, “Nora’s Sisters”, inspired by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, at Tzavta in Tel Aviv 11 May this year. The event attracted a full house at "Tzavta" in Tel Aviv, and was organised jointly by the Royal Norwegian Embassy and the Habima Theatre, in cooperation with the National Theatre in Oslo and the Tel Aviv University.

 * A “Scandinavian Delight” concert by the six-voice Norwegian a cappella ensemble Nordic Voices during the 9th Felicia Blumental International Music Festival in Tel Aviv 19 May this year.
