Brigadier General Roy Corrin Grøttheim was born September 7, 1955 in Oslo, Norway. He was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the Norwegian Army in 1977.
From 1977 to 1982, Brigadier General Grøttheim had various different positions within the Infantry Center located at Steinkjer, Norway. He was promoted to First Lieutenant in 1982 and reported to Garrison South Varanger located at Kirkenes, Norway on the Russian Border. For one year he was assigned as a Mortar Platoon Commander and then as a Station Chief at Svanvik Border Station for the next 3 years.
Brigadier General Grøttheim transferred back to Steinkjer as a Company Executive Officer for an infantry training company and was promoted to Captain in 1988. In 1989 he took command of the company.
In August 1989 Brigadier General Grøttheim transferred to the North Trøndelag Regiment and was assigned as the S-1. In 1993 he was transferred to Land Command Trøndelag as Deputy AC/S G-1 and during this tour in 1994 he was promoted to Major.
In 1996 Grøttheim was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and was transferred to Land Command North Norway as Chief of the Personnel Division. From August 1998 to December 1998 he was appointed the Battalion Commander for the Norwegian Battalion to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and during this period he was temporarily promoted to Colonel.
From January 1999 until January 2000 Grøttheim was transferred to the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization in Damascus, Syria were he was assigned as the Station Chief for the Observer Group Golan, Damascus.
In January 2000 Brigadier General Grøttheim reported to the Norwegian Chief of Defence to work in the Operation Cell on international issues and in July 2000 he reported to Land Command Trøndelag and was assigned as AC/S G-5.
From July 2002 to December 2002 Brigadier General Grøttheim was appointed the Norwegian National Contingent Commander to KFOR in Kosovo and in January 2003 he was promoted to Colonel and was transferred to the Norwegian Joint Headquarter as ACOS J 1/8 Personnel & Finance.
Brigadier General Grøttheim’s assignment for the last two years up until August 31, 2007 was as Deputy HOM /COS (DCOS) in the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization working in Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan and Israel. His office was located in UNTSO HQ Jerusalem, Israel.
In January 2008 Grøttheim was promoted to Brigadier General.
Brigadier General Grøttheim attended the Norwegian Military Academy at Kongsberg from 1978 to 1979. During 1990 he studied management and personnel at the Levanger Teachers Collage, he attended the Norwegian Army Logistic Management College Part 1 and part 2 from 1992 to 1993 and studied personnel management at the Swedish Staff College for 6 months. From August to October 2001 Colonel Grøttheim attended the Norwegian Defense College and during 2003 he studied strategy and organization development at the Levanger Teachers Collage.
